My boy scored his first goal!

So my oldest boy scored his first goal today, it was a gritty goal, he fought for it, dribbled the ball and lost it twice and won it back twice, he kept on pushing the other team back down the pitch and kept attacking the goal and he put enough pressure on them that between him and two of their players the ball crossed the goal line! I'm so freaking proud of him! He never gives up, just keeps on going!

Of course the annoying part of soccer for kids is that parents moan and moan about everything. Seriously, if your kid can't handle a little back then don't let them give a little in the first place! Tonight my oldest boy who is 3, yes, 3, nearly 4 was playing on the team for the 5-6 year olds because they were short of players on his sisters team, so he stepped up and played, he was brilliant, he tackled everyone, some sliding tackles and some great shots. He was pissed that they didn't do 'proper' throw ins! 'Dad, what's with the kicking the ball in? That's not soccer!' But then some big kid starts pushing him and using his elbows on him, so he does what he's been taught, he does it right back only he runs faster with the ball as he's doing it that the other kid, the other kid falls like a sack of crying potatoes and the coach is all freaked out and I'm all, 'OK, so tell your kids to keep their shoves to themselves and we'll be alright, my boy is going to give better than he got and he's going to take the ball at the same time'!

Yeah, that didn't go down so well with most parents, except Dave whose daughter is a great little player and is tough. He and I laughed about it - a lot.

Soccer is a contact sport, kids run and often into each other, get over it or sign them up for badminton.
