I must be American ...

I didn't realize how American I had become until today.

Here I am in South Africa on Thanksgiving and I just realized that it's my favourite holiday of the year. I am so sad at missing it with my family. There is something so wonderful about being with my family at Thanksgiving and really just spending time over dinner with them, baking, playing games and just being with them without the clutter of presents and the commercial noise of Christmas. That's not to say I don't love Christmas, I absolutely do. Not a lot of sights better than seeing your children's faces as they open presents that Father Christmas brought them and realizing that they got so many of the things that they had written to ask him for. Just a wonderful feeling. But Thanksgiving has that same family feel except it's just about giving thanks and to me the one thing that I am so thankful for - more than anything else in this world - is Amber, Luke, Bethia and Bradley - my family. I love them. Certainly haven't been the best at showing it sometimes, but I love them.

Not being with them is tough on Thanksgiving. Being here in SA where they do not celebrate Thanksgiving has really highlighted one of the things I love about living in America. It's going to be tough to leave. It already is.
